As an Anchorage Alaska Family Photographer, one of the things I’m most excited to bring with me is experience-based sessions that capture more than just what your family looks like, they capture what this season of life actually feels like.
When most people think about planning a family or maternity photography session, the first questions are usually pretty simple: Where should we go? What should we wear? What time should we meet?
And sometimes, simple is exactly what you want. A beautiful location, great light, and the people you love most can be more than enough to create photographs you’ll cherish.
But sometimes, we can take it one step further.
Some of my favorite sessions are the ones that feel less like a photoshoot and more like an experience—something your family would genuinely enjoy doing together, with me there to document it.
This maternity session was the perfect example.
We spent time by the water, hopped on the boat, cut up a watermelon in the backyard, and, of course, made sure their golden retriever was involved in just about everything. Nothing needed to be overly complicated or extravagant. It was simply an afternoon built around pieces of their real life.
And those little details are what made the session feel so personal.

Not every photography session needs an elaborate plan.
Sometimes you want updated family photos with the mountains behind you. Maybe you’re celebrating your baby’s first birthday, documenting a pregnancy, or simply realizing it’s been way too long since everyone was in the same photo.
Those sessions can be relaxed, beautiful, and incredibly meaningful.
But an experience session gives us the opportunity to tell a little more of your family’s story.
Instead of choosing a location simply because it’s pretty, we can start with a different question:
What does your family actually love doing together?
Maybe that’s spending an evening by the water. Taking the dogs on an adventure. Having a picnic. Exploring somewhere new with your kids. Heading out on the boat. Roasting marshmallows around a fire. Or staying home and documenting the wonderfully ordinary things that make this season of life yours.
The activity doesn’t have to be impressive. It just has to feel like you.

As I prepare to move my photography business to Anchorage, Alaska, this is something I’m especially excited about.
Alaska gives us SO much room to create sessions that are about more than standing in a beautiful spot and smiling at the camera.
Of course, I cannot wait for those gorgeous Alaska mountain backdrops. Give me all of them. 😂 But I also want to photograph families experiencing this incredible place together.
An Anchorage family photography session could mean exploring a favorite trail with your kids, having a picnic with the mountains in the distance, spending an evening near the water, or documenting one of those cozy days at home when the weather has other plans.
For maternity sessions, maybe we choose somewhere that represents this chapter of your life in Alaska rather than simply finding the prettiest overlook. And for families who are military or only calling Alaska home for a few years, an experience session can become an incredible way to document not only what your family looked like during this season, but what life here actually felt like.
That’s the part I’m most excited about.

Whether you choose a simple portrait session or we plan an entire experience around something your family loves, my goal stays the same: I want your photographs to feel natural, joyful, and unmistakably yours.
There will still be some looking at the camera. I’ll still guide you when you need it. And yes, we’ll absolutely make sure we get the beautiful photographs for the frames on your walls.
But we’ll also leave room for everything that happens in between.
The laughing. The movement. The dog trying to steal the watermelon. The kids being completely themselves. The tiny interactions you probably don’t even realize are happening.
Because years from now, those may be the photographs that bring you right back.
And as I begin photographing families, newborns, and maternity sessions in Anchorage and throughout Southcentral Alaska, I can’t wait to learn what makes life here special to each family I meet—and turn those experiences into photographs they’ll get to keep forever. 🤍

There’s something so special about photographing a family as they welcome a new baby — especially when that baby is their first son after two sweet girls! This session with the Impeduglia family was full of love, laughter, and those perfectly imperfect little moments that make at-home sessions so meaningful. Rather than a traditional nursery […]

Is there anything better than a maternity session on the beach…? (Hint: the answer is no…. lol) I vividly remember the day that Anna told me she was pregnant. I was just leaving base in Germany and pulled over since she was calling me on video. To say I was in disbelief is an […]

COVID-19 has definitely changed a lot this year in so many ways from how we style and celebrate milestones to how we socialize with friends and family. This past week Chandler asked me for some ideas of how to capture her birthday which just so happened to be the last day of her lock in […]

A little backstory before product photography came into my life… I started really getting into photographing other people when we were in Florida in 2015. We then moved to Maryland in December of 2015 and that is when my business grew. I had regular clients, weddings, second shot a lot of weddings, and finally began […]

I remember how terribly inconsistent I was with poses during an engagement session back when I started photography and my oh my.. Do you remember Anna? Back in July of 2016 I was invited to a styled shoot by a friend 30 minutes before it started. I ended up getting stuck in traffic on […]

One thing I have learned from this quarantine (as a family photographer) is that there is always more work that can be done to work on your craft. Even if that does not include shooting. I am going back through older sessions and came across this session with my best friend Natalie of Natalie Grace […]
