Every time I get an inquiry for a first birthday session I get asked if they [the parents] can be in a few photos too.
I HIGHLY suggest that the parents and other siblings jump in a few pictures at the beginning of the session. This is a big milestone and what better way to celebrate than some family photos. It is pretty rare that both mom and dad are in pictures with their kid/s at the same time.
I just had my baby boy just over 5 months ago and I wish I was in the frame more. You can not get that time back and unfortunately we can’t remember every little moment. Not only do I suggest jumping in photos for this session, I also recommend at least one photo with each parent during other milestones such as 3 months, 6 months, and 9 months.

Is there anything better than a maternity session on the beach…? (Hint: the answer is no…. lol) I vividly remember the day that Anna told me she was pregnant. I was just leaving base in Germany and pulled over since she was calling me on video. To say I was in disbelief is an […]
COVID-19 has definitely changed a lot this year in so many ways from how we style and celebrate milestones to how we socialize with friends and family. This past week Chandler asked me for some ideas of how to capture her birthday which just so happened to be the last day of her lock in […]
A little backstory before product photography came into my life… I started really getting into photographing other people when we were in Florida in 2015. We then moved to Maryland in December of 2015 and that is when my business grew. I had regular clients, weddings, second shot a lot of weddings, and finally began […]
I remember how terribly inconsistent I was with poses during an engagement session back when I started photography and my oh my.. Do you remember Anna? Back in July of 2016 I was invited to a styled shoot by a friend 30 minutes before it started. I ended up getting stuck in traffic on […]
One thing I have learned from this quarantine (as a family photographer) is that there is always more work that can be done to work on your craft. Even if that does not include shooting. I am going back through older sessions and came across this session with my best friend Natalie of Natalie Grace […]
If you are stationed in Germany, you have most likely been to Burg Lichtenberg at least a handful of times. This is one of my favorite castles to go to for family sessions. The kids love to run around and play and the adults can really take in the scenery around Burg Lichtenberg. Going to this […]
[…] mentioned in a previous post that it is very important to include some family photos in first birthday sessions. You as parents made it through a year of raising your child and these are images that would be […]
